Laundry Series: Italy

I was looking to capture the patterns and random order created by windows and shutters with wash hanging out to dry. It seems to me that someone carefully plans out the visual order of the laundry into well balanced shapes of color and pattern. I often wondered if anyone looks up to their own balcony to assess their colorful creations. Many of these photographs have been incorporated into artists books, others I have printed and mounted them on panels and covered them with encaustic wax. The wax softens the images and to my eye gives them a patina which ages them.
